Can a high school student volunteer in a medical lab?
I live near a top medschool/hospital where I’m volunteering. I want to be a doctor. I’d love to get a job working in a medical lab, but don’t know if I’m old enough. I’m 16 years old and I’m in high school. Can I work in a medical research? I’m really intrested in cancer research (I want to be a pediatric oncologist), are high school students allowed to work in medical research labs? And if so, what are the chances of being hired by one to work a few days after school? Thanks for the help!
Highly variable from state to state and from region to region. I know in some prep high schools they actually have labs, but the best way to find out is ask. Don’t get your hopes up, though, chances of you doing anything advanced are pretty low. You’ll be doing a lot of manual labor.
