I read in Harvard women's health newsletter hi lung cancer rates are related to "radon and uranium, and that these substances are naturally in certain soil compositions, which seems to granite.
Some types of granite do not emit radon gas in small quantities. This is normally not important but in some places (Cornwall, for example) it is recommended that wineries be well ventilated to stop any potential accumulation of radon gas which is a heavy gas that sinks to the lowest level. The figures raised levels of cancer in the granite areas are so small that it is not possible make absolutely no connection between them.
