Cancer Diet Therapy
Proof of alternative treatments for cancer?
I had breast cancer last year at 31. Had chemotherapy and now I am in remission.
I had a friend who was quite alternative in her thinking. She strongly disagreed with chemotherapy, she told me with natural therapies, positive thinking and dietary changes the cancer would resolve itself. The same friend told me that I’d brought the cancer upon myself with my lifestyle choices. Needless to say I no longer speak to her.
I know that natural therapy, positive thinking and diet do much to alleviate side effects and improve quality of life, but is there any evidence to suggest that they are a viable alternative to traditional cancer treatments?
Has cancer ever just gone away by itself?
The double blind standard demanded in Western Science has never been proven to show supplements alone as a cure. That said, surgery/chemo alone is not really a cure either. We are talking remission in most cases, and a five year survival rate is what they aim for as a meaningful remission.
That said, everyone has to follow their own ideals when it comes to medical care. I have seen cancers in relatives and friends treated many times with traditional chemo/radiation. I have seen a few people choose alternative therapies. Just from watching people I know personally, I have to say alternative therapies gives a much better quality of life. That is my personal opinion, obviously not a medical opinion. I am sure that if 100 people were asked this exact same question, each would see things a bit differently. It is just up to your own personal judgment.
Everyone on this earth dies at some point. Sometimes simply choosing to live a life with less discomfort and higher quality is better than suffering through chemo and being in and out of the hospital. Maybe that was what she was thinking. Some people have a higher tolerance level when it comes to difficult treatments. Perhaps she doesn’t have the ability to endure some of the treatments that you can. Quality vs quantity of life are very personal decisions.
Your friend made the choice right for her. You make the choice right for you. Neither one of you have to agree, nor do you have to validate the other’s opinion.

As far as your behaviors or any one elses behaviors causing cancer, when it reaches the point of making treatment choices, the cause doesn’t matter. You can’t look back and guess about the past. You just start from where you are, and do the best you can do to make the decisions right for you from that point. Looking back, trying to assess guilt, and regret is not helpful to the situation at that point.
